Health-Related Fitness - Outcome 1
The Exercise Game
These videos are a fun little activity that requires some open space to move around. Students will follow along to the instructions given on the video and perform the fundamental movements - walk, run, skip, hop (on one foot), crawl, and gallop. Practicing these simple movements reinforces the students fundamental locomotor movement skills and also works on memory. These 5 minute songs/videos are often used in the gym as a warmup to class at Millwood.

Dance Games - Outcome 3
Gymnastics at Home - Outcome 4
Some tips on doing basic gymnastics tumbling skills.
1. somersault or front roll
2. backwards somersault or back roll
3. cartwheel
4. handstands
5. stretching and flexibility exercises
These are all skills that were taught in the fall to the younger grades. For many it would be a quick review, for some the coordination of the skills was still developing. When working with kids on these skills be sure to spot them by being close to them and have your hand supporting their necks and backs through their rolls. For the cartwheel and round off you can support them from your knees and "catch" their waist as they rotate through the skill infront of you.

How to:
Want to do some easy yoga with your student? Setup this activity in a space where there is room for the two (or more) of you to lie down stretched out. Parents (older siblings) act as the teacher and the younger ones are the students.
How to:
- Today’s activity is called Developing A Flow. We will combine different poses into short routines called a flow. Each flow can be used to tell or create a story. Use the Yoga - Animal Flow Reference Card pdf below for a simple flow, or follow along with the Sun Salutation Flow pdf below.
- To start, follow my demonstrations for each pose. Focus on balance as you transfer your body weight and move from one pose to the next.
- Once we learn and get good at each pose, and we can demonstrate dynamic balance as we move from one pose to the next, we’ll combine them from start to finish in a flow (movement story).
- Read the story of the Gruffalo (or watch this video of the story being read) and then follow the Yoga - Gruffalo Flow Reference Card below for a fun yoga session.
